Europe's largest open pit basalt mine

The basalt open-cast mine in Nieder-Ofleiden (Homberg/Ohm) is the largest of its kind in Europe. It is operated by Mitteldeutsche Hartstein-Industrie GmbH (MHI). The Steinexpo takes place here every three years.

The varied and exciting GeoTour Felsenmeer circuit leads past the open-cast mine and offers breathtaking views.
