The Geological Calendar has been published by the DGGV since 2002, the "Year of Earth Sciences" in Germany.

Annually changing topics lead you to fascinating geological phenomena on our earth. With the explanations of the phenomena shown on the back of each calendar sheet, the Geological Calendar is suitable for travel arrangements, but also as a teaching aid or to prepare for exams.

In particular, the Geological Calendar wants to draw attention to the beauty and complexity of our home planet.

The 2021 Geocalendar << The sea >>

The earth's large continuous mass of water occupies almost three quarters of its surface. Due to plate tectonics, the distribution of land and sea changes continuously. New oceanic crust is formed at the mid-ocean ridges, and in the subduction zones it reappears in the Earth's mantle. In the process, trenches of up to 10 kilometres in depth are created. Throughout the earth's history, the material removed by the land masses was deposited in the ocean basins. These sediments with their fossils are an important source for the reconstruction of past events.

The 2021 Geocalendar picks up themes from different areas, from the deep sea to plankton in the upper water layers as well as the coasts.

The 2021 geocalendar is available for 21€ per copy. (plus shipping costs).

Members of the DGGV, its Sections and Work Groups, the DGGeophysics, the PalGes, the BDG and the DMG receive the calendar at a price of 15 € per copy plus shipping costs.
