Too good for the trash!

As part of the 2021 "Germany saves food!" campaign week, owners of meadow orchards or fruit trees can tie a yellow ribbon to their trees from September 29th to October 6th - it signals: The harvest is open to everyone. In this way, the campaign ensures that more fruit trees are harvested and the fruit is utilized instead of going to waste. The campaign aims to raise awareness for the reduction of food waste and for more appreciation of regional foods. It takes place throughout Germany and is a joint initiative of "Too good for the garbage can!" of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the ministries of the federal states.

In Hesse, the Tafel Hessen e.V. - Landesverband Hessen, among others, is taking part. Together with regional food banks, it is organizing local cooking events using harvested fruit and cooperating with meadow orchards in the region. Also some districts already expressed interest to support the action. In addition, the Vernetzungsstelle Schulverpflegung Hessen and the Verbraucherzentrale Hessen e. V. are working to publicize the campaign week widely and are carrying out their own measures, such as a FoodSaverChallenge.

On a digital map, locations of trees and shrubs can be registered by owners and then viewed and visited by interested parties:
