Feldatal - a green island

Feldatal in the Vogelsberg - a cultural landscape with small villages and people close to nature. In the centre of Hesse, just an hour's drive from Frankfurt or Kassel, you feel like on a green island. It is the valley of the mills and one of the most beautiful of the unspoilt volcanic landscape.

There is much to discover!

  • Hesse's largest half-timbered hall church stands in Stumpertenrod. It is a hall building with a three-sided end, a saddle roof with a stubble hip and a lantern roof rider. The church was built in 1696 and consecrated in 1712.
  • Feldatal, the valley of the mills. 20 mills and an iron hammer were in operation in the Feldatal area. Many of the buildings are still preserved today, although they have been used for other - profane - purposes and the mill wheels and equipment have often been dismantled. The Zeilbach Queck Mill is still used for grinding. Like others, it can be visited by appointment, such as the Burgsmuehle, Wolfenmuehle and Herrenmuehle.
  • Adventure farm - Milky Way.The farm, situated in the idyllic village of Stumpertenrod in Vogelsberg, has been owned by the Stein family for several generations and is now managed with a focus on dairy farming. The Dreiseit farmhouse, whose origins date back to the 16th century, has been continuously inhabited by the family since 1865, when a fire destroyed the old building. Today Christiane Stein (master of rural housekeeping) and Albrecht Stein (agricultural master) run the farm.
