In May and June, hikers can look forward to a veritable sea of blossoms along the certified premium hiking trail "Bergmaehwiesenpfad". The almost 9km long hiking trail is considered an insider tip, you can even catch a glimpse of the Frankfurt skyline.
Natural area worthy of protection - the Hessian sustainability initiative " Naehe ist gut" ("Proximity is good") wants to address the public awareness and advocates for the preservation of the natural paradise "Bergmaehwiesen" ("mountain meadows"). The focus here is on the near-natural management by man and the uniquely large biodiversity. Since 2017, the companies Hassia, Schwaelbchen and REWE Mitte have been involved with the support of the Office for Economy and Rural Areas as well as the network partner Major Conservation Project and the Geopark municipality of Grebenhain.
To kick off the hiking season and to enjoy the natural wonder all the more, "Naehe ist gut" is giving away 10 picnic baskets from May to July - starting May 10th, one winner will be chosen each week. Simply send an e-mail to picknick@bergmaehwiesen.de and state the planned date for the day trip. The end of the campaign is July 28th.
